Christian "Patch" Patchell
2013 Featured Speaker
Mr. Patchell is a professional cartoonist and a senior lecturer at the University of the Arts in Philadelphia. He is an oral cancer survivor, and wrote a book "I Put the Can in Cancer: A Journey Through Pictures" to visually illustrate his life changing battle with cancer. He put words to images to tell the tale of his life before, during and after his illness. The soul of his book is the twenty-five sketches he created throughout treatments of radiation and chemotherapy. Alongside each drawing are the words that these pictures now conjure as the artist recalls stories of fear, friendship, family and love. At the Oral Cancer Walk 2013, Mr. Patchell wants to share his story on oral cancer.
